This picture is part of Brian's I Am Inuit project which took him to 20 villages in Northwest Alaska in 2016, made in partnership with the Inuit Circumpolar Council. I Am Inuit is currently on view at the Anchorage Museum, University of Alaska Art Gallery, and a monograph of the work will be published next year.
I Am Inuit was, primarily, a social media experiment on Instagram, although all of the images were made with a Hasselblad film camera. This signed and numbered edition was printed on Canson Baryta archival paper at ICE FOG PRESS.
The following is the text which accompanied the photo on Instagram on September 4, 2016.
"Overlooking the old townsite of Noorvik and the Nazuruk Channel of the Kobuk River. There are only a handful of homes and families still living in the old townsite of Noorvik near the bluff. Noorvik, Alaska. 2016."
